Soulier (Ryan Hall) is an international DJ and electronic music producer
based in Calgary, Alberta (Canada). An enigma, Ryan spends most of his time in his
studio creating deep and intelligent layers of electronic sounds in the genres
of tech-house, deep tech, deep house, and techno. Audiences catch a rare glimpse of an artist
at work when he tours, and plays shows locally.
A product of the Canadian Prairies, Ryan grew up surrounded by music -
having many mentors and inspirational people along his musical path. “Music is
an obsession for me. I am always trying
to think about new sounds, ways to show people the limitless potential of
electronic music” He has performed many different
musical styles, including classical, jazz, musicals, rock, metal, funk, and a
number of electronic genres. He is
inspired local Calgary-based artists who all share an equal passion for
creating great electronic music. His growing online audience comes from
all over the globe, including China, France, Canada, and the USA.
As a former student of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Ryan honed
his skills as a musician and composer. “Berklee helped me not only with
my song-writing, but with the art of translating experiences into sound.
Emotions can be painted through sound, so my music tends to be based on
how I feel at the time when I write it, so I take the audience through a
variety of emotional states – sad, tense, lustful, overjoyed, peaceful.”
In July 2014, Soulier completed his first tour in China - with
performances in Beijing, Tianjin, and Changsha. Soulier also performed in
front of thousands on the electronic stage at the popular china-wide Strawberry
Ryan releases tracks under his own label, Soulier Music – with his most
recent original track “China Life” reaching #21 on the Traxsource electro-house
charts. He has appeard on CBC radio, and
Up!97.7 FM, and has performed on Habitat Living Sound in Calgary – as well as
abroad. The China Life EP featured
originals, remixes, and collaborations from other Calgary producers Isis Graham, Matt Caine, Krystle Love B, and Enno Karr.
He has also created remixes, most recently for Saskatoon-based island
rock band The Steadies, and for the sweet
soulful sounds of Western Canadian Music Award nominee Aaaron Adair. His most recent collaboration was with the
amazing vocals from Tatrina Tai.
Ryan has a steady schedule of releases in the coming year.
